Arriving at Iowa a decade or so after Robert Dana, I often heard his name cited as one of the successful workshop graduates. But it wasn't until an AWP convention in the early 2000s that I actually met him, and that was by chance. He sat next to me in an auditorium. Of course, I recognized his name tag. We had much to talk about. He was as gracious in person as he is in this interview.

We had the chance to meet Robert Dana in person a couple of years ago, thanks to a introduction from Derek Alger. rd was truly an inspiration; kind, friendly, giving and fascinating. He was interested in our audio magazine, and we were lucky enough to have him record a story and poem for us. When he died, we were asked by his family to record an evening of readings and also his memorial. It was a true honor. The podcast is available through our website boundoff.com

Ann and Kelly
Bound Off Editors

A fascinating interview - there is so much intense material packed in here. I look forward to sharing this with students and fellow poets alike!
