Pif Magazine Leads “The Next Wave” with Hypertext

LACEY, WA – January 1st, 2000 (INB) – Pif Magazine, https://www.pifmagazine.com,
launched its 32nd volume of fiction, poetry, and commentary today with
a new electronic spin. This Hypertext Issue includes animated cover art,
hyperfiction, hyperpoetry, reviews of e-books and hypertexts, an email
interview with hypertext writer Michael Joyce, audio clips, and more.

Until now, online literary magazines have been electronic facsimiles
of print periodicals. Seeking to push the boundaries of literary magazines
on the Internet, this fall Pif‘s staff asked Web programmers and
writers: How can we break away from print journals and make the most of
our medium?

“Make it more electronic in every way” was the answer. This month Pif
responded by publishing work that utilizes the Web’s audio and visual
technologies. The site’s content now includes Zine reviews, email interviews,
hyperfiction, hyperpoetry, electronic cover art, and reviews of electronic
writing. Upcoming additions will include audio clips of writers reading
their work, video interviews, and a Bulletin Board for literary discussions.
Pif plans to continue to publish simple-text based literature and
essays but will do so alongside the new electronic work.

Pif is a four year old literary Zine with over 100,000 faithful
readers and over a million impressions each month. It’s published monthly
and is FREE to the public.

Pif includes Pilot-Search.com
(the largest literary search engine online), Writers
Only Free Classifieds
, searchable archives, and literary contests.
This fall Yahoo! Internet Life named Pif as the leader of
“THE NEXT WAVE,” and, in the Foreword to the 1999 edition of The Best
American Poetry
, Editor David Lehman shortlisted Pif as a “hot
new on-line literary magazine.”
