You Take

by Anjana Basu

You take a car, any car
and hold the wheel
You take a road, any road
and shut down the sky
You pull a cloud or two down
and it rains
Pours in sheets of whiskey
visibility low
Then you think of death, any death,
of the end of a poem,
of the plunge of a road
and you go out singing
fifteen feet through the windscreen
and drown.

Anjana Basu is an advertising professional living in Calcutta, India. Her poems and short stories have been appeared in Pilot-Search India, The Amethyst Review, Bathtub Gin, The Wolfhead and Kimera, to name a few.
