Gadfly
Edited by Jayson R. Whitehead
Reviewed by Gayle O'Brien
Gadfly's on-line version of its off-line magazine is a gem. It has an impressive collection of content with some noted literary figures, such as this month's interview with author Tim O'Brien.
You won't find any subject matter on Gadfly that hasn't made headlines elsewhere: the Psycho remake, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Stevie Spielberg, and Shakespeare's comeback. But unlike Abcnews, etonline, etc. Gadfly's writing is compelling to read and goes a step beyond just reporting. The writers take liberty with opinion, which modern day journalism could use more of. It makes for better dinner conversations and for better bedtime discourse.
One criticism to the folks at Gadfly: the animated fly graphic in your navigation bar is cute the first time, but incredibly distracting in its continuance. Tone it down, pretty please?
My Poem for Gadfly:
Gadfly, oh Gadfly,
You wonderful 'zine.
I'm glad you're so good
So I don't have to be mean
I wish that your pages
Get oodles of traffic
But would you mind removing
That animated graphic?

Gayle O'Brien is anticipating lots of hate mail, and has chickened out of providing her e-mail address. When she's not being chicken, she can be found at home eating chicken.
