From: New Risk Theme Card

Congrats, Camille, and congrats go to Rich too. It's all just hard-assed work and having some great taste. There's very little else e-mag ways I read regularly, and that's not just to see how my own stuff looks. Seriously, I think you have an exquisite eye for stuff and that's always going to pay off--fortunately it's paying off this time way before the effort is done with...

Editor's Note: In case you missed it, here is a reprint of the write up published in the November, 1999, issue of Yahoo! Internet Life:

"THE NEXT WAVE Pif
With writers-only classifieds and regular fiction and poetry contests, Pif targets hungry scribes eager for the chance to submit original work. But anyone who might appreciate how an obscure Lou Reed song could inspire a several-thousand-word essay is likely to enjoy spending time here. The site devotes a section to underground zines that just might give established mags a run for their money someday.

I think it would have been nice to see the rest of this story. The last paragraph was all that came up. Or was that it?

Subject: Macro-Fiction by Clint Witchalls
Date: Thu, 21 Oct 1999
From: Sharon LaFrenz

I got such a kick out of this story! I'm an American living in Canada. Love reading 'other people, other places' kinds of things. Excellent job, Clint! Two teensies you might want to correct (I want this kind of feedback on my work -- if you don't, ignore it) -- 'She's fancies herself as a bit of a shrink' (drop the 's) and 'When he saw I had the cash, he was more THAN ready to do business.' (than omitted) Do you have anything published, in book form, I mean?

I love this poem! 'A writer is essentially a spy' -- how true!

Subject: Review of Cowboy Poet of the Month by Jill Hill
Date: Wed, 13 Oct 1999
From: Shad A. Pease

This is Shad Pease, cowboy poet. I was just browsing and got a hold of this article. Thank you very much for your support and the excellent write-up. Actually, I'm stunned. Naturally, I'm gonna say "Keep up the good work". Which is directed mostly at providing a stimulating wake-up call to the general public about poetry.

Many thanks.

Your friend,
Shad A. Pease

Subject: Greg Joly Interview
Date: Tue, 12 Oct 1999
From: Randy Ames

As having been one of Greg's close personal friends for close to 20 years, I never thought that I would live to see the day that Greg would be interviewed and published "online." It just goes to show you that the only 2 things in life that are certain are death and taxes. My hat's off to you Greg!! Thank you for the enlighting visit, I know our visits are long overdue. -- Randy Ames

Very good! He grabbed me right away and I somehow became part of his work--his art. Bravo. Keep up the good work.
Sincerely,

Subject: advertising on site
Date: Thu, 7 Oct 1999
From: Rosner, Liz

Dear Editors:
Although I do understand the necessity for the commercial support, the flashing of the ads is extremely distracting, not to mention almost painful to the eye. If you must continue to display ads, is there any way to keep them static on the site? I have been recommending this magazine to other writer friends of mine, but all of them have mentioned the advertising problem as a major deterrent to spending any time visiting your site.
Thanks for your attention.

Subject: Mea Cup-A by Daryl Lease

From: Jcdk123456

Hey, watch out! I'm a woman who believes there's nothing like her plastic cups from prior football and basketball games for drinking. I'm looking forward to the coming basketball season so I can see what's gonna be inthe cupboard next. And I live with a man who enjoys them too. Great article, Daryl.

Subject: Great Magazine!
Date: Wed, 6 Oct 1999
From: valcapps

It's really difficult to find good short stories. I hated to hear that Story would be ceasing publication, but PIF is a wonderful find! With a busy schedule like mine, it's wonderful to be able to enjoy some quality fiction without the degree of time commitment a full length novel demands. I'm glad you've created another source to feed my habit.
Thanks!

Subject: This & That
Date: Mon, 4 Oct 1999
From: Red Rose Naturals

Camille, have you ever watched a bird make a nest? They find all sorts of sizes of twigs, strings--they'll pluck the hairs from the back of a cat--then methodically weave it all together until voila! a home! Until today, I have not thoroughly reviewed PIF Magazine. I've been too busy looking for twigs and strings to set up home. So this is just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed the October issue, and that I intend to be a regular reader from now on. Congratulations on your fourth anniversary.

Pif:
"The Deaf" was a moving poem indeed, but then all of Ric Masten's work has that quality. I attended a program once in Denver where Ric shared his insightful poetry and music. It was, obviously, memorable.
