Cynthia Frazier is a graduate of Bennington College. She has published poetry in Silo, in various women's magazines, and has a story forthcoming in an anthology of "first sexual encounters" from Alyson Publications. She writes for a weekly newspaper in Marina del Rey, California. Regarding her inspiration for "Elvis/Jesus" she had this to say: "'Elvis/Jesus' was a departure for me in the sense of throwing myself into a mind-set that I don't really share but know that many do. I also tried, in this poem, to incorporate gospel and the speech of `common folk' - the kind of people who gather at Graceland to mourn the death of their "king" ... I also thought of St. Augustine reading the words of God `written in the skin of the people.'"
