We didn’t talk at first. I was naked

& she was conflicted about what that meant

on our property line. She couldn’t call

the police. She could ask me to stop singing

songs about how darkness is just dead light

waiting for the spark of the sun to be raised

again. I made a joke about zombies.

She made a joke about my penis. It was

well done by both parties. There was never

any discussion of the police after that.

She could only laugh, sing my song

& wonder out loud to my wife

if I was still sober. I was still sober,

but I’d lost six reasons why I shouldn’t

sing songs naked, outside of the house

& really there had only ever been six for me.
