I made a point of remembering

the silence inside the car

driving southwest

sun brilliant and warm

Impetulant crosswinds tossed my car

to the right shoulder of spring tangled weeds

and chain-linked Interstate fence where wind captured

and inflated a steel gray plastic shopping bag that waddled –

the size of a wild turkey

scratching for grubs in fresh thawed soil

the Red-Tailed Hawks herald this breech of cover

a long winter

teases us into escape
